The purpose of this project was to assist the Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) in creating core spatial solutions for the Zero Dose Child Vaccination Project of the Equity Acceleration Fund (EAF). The EAF funds an innovative initiative to identify and reach zero-dose children living in displaced communities and fragile and conflict settings.

We completed the following technical work:

  • Modelling of zero dose and under-vaccination estimates for not only the 4 priority provinces (Maniema, Kasai-Oriental, Mongala, Tshopo), but also for the entire DRC including: estimates and maps of vaccination coverage at different levels (province, health zone, health area).
  • Mapped estimates of the number of children vaccinated against DTP and MCV.
  • DTP1-3: 1st, 2nd and 3rd doses of the diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis-containing vaccine, also known as PENTA1-3 vaccine.
  • MCV1: 1st dose of the measles-containing vaccine (VAR1 in French).
  • List of priority areas to guide routine immunisation intervention.
  • Predictors of zero dose and under-vaccination identified for the four priority provinces.
  • The numbers of zero-dose children in urban/rural and conflict/non-conflict areas were estimated in four priority provinces.
  • Two journal articles are in development.
