Krishnaveni is a Senior Research Assistant specializing in spatiotemporal modelling of urban sprawl, who joined WorldPop in April 2024. With a keen interest in understanding and addressing the complexities of urbanisation, her research focuses on various facets including geo-spatial data handling, processing, and analysis, land use and land cover change (LULC), urban growth modelling, spatiotemporal dynamics, and related areas.

Krishnaveni is currently in the final stage of her PhD at the Department of Architecture and Planning, NIT Calicut, Kerala, India. Her doctoral research primarily revolves around the parametric characterisation and modelling of urban sprawl using geospatial technologies. Her work encompasses urban growth prediction, machine learning-based methodologies, and the formulation of effective management strategies to combat uncontrolled urban sprawl.

Krishnaveni holds a B-Tech degree in Civil Engineering from NIT Calicut (2012) and an M-Tech in Geoinformatics from the College of Engineering Trivandrum (2014), where she was honoured with the prestigious First Rank at Kerala University. She embarked on a rewarding academic journey as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at SCMS School of Engineering & Technology, Kerala, India, for nearly two years. She excelled in teaching GIS, remote sensing, water resources engineering, and hydraulic structure design while also providing comprehensive training on related software to students.
Krishnaveni also served as a Geographic Information System Expert for the National Health Mission (NHM) Idukki on a part-time basis. In this capacity, she played a pivotal role in supporting the NHM Idukki team’s efforts to track and map COVID-19 cases.
