WorldPop Directors Discuss Data Empowerment at UN Statistical Commission

In February, our Director, Andy Tatem, and Deputy Director for Engagement, Ian Coady, participated in the UN Statistical Commission meeting in New York. Their focus was to address critical issues relevant to WorldPop, including population and housing censuses, health statistics, and the integration of statistics and geospatial data.

The overarching theme of the week-long event centred on the ‘Power of Data’, emphasising the critical role of collaboration and partnerships in enhancing countries’ capacity to leverage data effectively. Discussions underscored the necessity of joint efforts to unlock investments crucial for realising the potential benefits of data, often referred to as the “data dividend”.

The gathering served as a pivotal opportunity not only to engage with current partners but also to explore potential collaborations with new stakeholders. The aim was to advocate our expertise, methodologies, and products, thereby reinforcing our portfolio and advancing our mission on a global scale.
