How WorldPop Uses Google Open Building Data

Back in September, BBC Tech Life’s Chris Vallance caught up with our director, Professor Andy Tatem to talk about Google’s Open Buildings project, a massive effort to map and monitor changes in the built environment using satellite data.

Professor Tatem explained how this ground breaking dataset is helping WorldPop improve our estimates of where people actually live. By combining Open Buildings data with our population modelling, we’re able to support better targeting of public health interventions, the rapid assessment of disaster impacts, and help national statistics offices improve their census planning.
