WorldPop is partnering with the International Data Alliance for Children on the Move (IDAC) to host a webinar on February 19 exploring how AI can bridge critical demographic gaps for children on the move. This session highlights the necessity of accurate and contemporary data to ensure vulnerable populations are visible in humanitarian decision-making.
Professor Andy Tatem will lead the discussion by examining high-resolution small-area modelling for child-specific demographics and monitoring migration in Latin America. The webinar will also feature Eimear Cleary and Haiyan Liu, who will discuss leveraging anonymised and aggregated novel digital data – such as mobile network and social media sources – to quantify population movements during natural disasters.
Additionally, Alexey Noskov and Dr Sarchil Qader will present data integration approaches for mapping internally displaced populations, featuring recent case studies from low- and middle-income countries including Nigeria and the DRC. By fostering closer collaboration between data scientists and child-focused experts, these methods aim to improve evidence for timely action and humanitarian relief.
