Dr Shourjya Deb

Portrait photo of Dr Shourjya DebShourjya joined WorldPop as a Research Fellow specialising in monitoring and evaluation. He leads research into the uptake and use of demographic information and supports analysis of the efficacy of our data products and interventions.

He is primarily a mixed-methods researcher and has experience conducting and managing surveys in conflict-affected areas and unplanned urban settlements, often working with underserved and vulnerable communities. Shourjya has personal research interests in, and experience working on, subjective well-being, perceptions of security, governance and conflict prevention.

His prior research fieldwork has led to engagements in India, the broader Sahel region in Africa, Sweden, and the United States.

Shourjya completed his PhD and Master’s in Public Affairs from the Department of Public Policy and Administration at Rutgers University (New Jersey, United States). Prior to this, he completed his first master’s degree in Social Work at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (Mumbai, India) and earned his bachelor’s degree in Comparative Literature from Jadavpur University (Calcutta, India).
