Health Information for 3.2 Billion People

DHIS2 is an open-source software platform developed in collaboration between the Health Information Service Provider (HISP) Centre at the University of Oslo and the 23 local groups in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and the Americas that make up the HISP network. More than 80 countries worldwide use DHIS2 for collecting and analyzing health data, covering 3.2 billion people (40% of the world’s population).

With health data becoming increasingly geocoded, and interest in district-level or finer mapping and measurement of health metrics growing, DHIS2 developed a mapping component. The DHIS2 Maps app enables health decision makers to overlay multiple layers and create thematic maps of areas and points, view health facilities based on classifications, and visualize catchment areas for each facility. WorldPop partners with DHIS2 to provide age/sex-disaggregated small area population data for use in the app. This enables governments around the World to estimate health facility catchment populations, derive district-level health metrics and target resources to those demographic groups and communities most in need.
